FAQ about artisanal Corsican knives
Couteaux Corses FAQ
Origin, authenticity, unique pieces, choices, maintenance and ordering: find answers to common questions about artisanal Corsican knives offered by Couteaux Corses®, online and in Corte
Where to buy a genuine artisanal Corsican knife?
You can buy an artisanal Corsican knife at www.couteaux-corses.fr or discover the available pieces at the Collect’Arts gallery in Corte. Couteaux Corses® selects and markets creations from knife-making artisans working in Corsica since 2011.
Are the knives offered made in Corsica?
Yes. The knives marketed by Couteaux Corses® are made in Corsica. Their presentation allows you to identify the artisan or the model, the steel of the blade, the material of the handle, and the specific characteristics of each piece.
How can I recognize an authentic artisanal Corsican knife?
Check the identity of the knife maker, their hallmark or signature, and the place of manufacture. A blade shape or a design evoking Corsica is not sufficient to establish the origin of the knife. At Couteaux Corses®, selected pieces are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Is the photographed knife the one I will receive?
Yes, unless expressly stated otherwise on the product sheet. The knives offered are unique pieces: the photographs show the piece actually being sold. The nuances of the horn, the grain of the wood, the patterns of the damask, and the finishes belong to that specific knife.
Can a sold knife be ordered again in the same way?
No. Each knife presented is a unique piece. Another knife of the same model may possibly be offered, but its materials, colors, and finishes may differ.
How to choose your Corsican knife?
Start with the intended use and the grip. Then compare the mechanism, the steel, the material of the handle, and the dimensions. For a folding knife, particularly check the closed length; for any piece, consult the blade length, the proportions of the handle, and the weight when indicated. Our guide "Choosing your Corsican knife" details these criteria.
Does the Corsican knife with a rivet have a blade locking mechanism?
No. The capstan assembly, also known as the "rivet" assembly, works by friction, without spring or locking. The blade rotates around a riveted axis; a second axis serves as a stop at its heel. The mechanism of each knife should be checked on its sheet, as Corsican knives can also use other assemblies.
What is the difference between a carbon, damask, and stainless steel blade?
A carbon blade can patina and requires special attention to humidity. The damask is distinguished by its patterns; its maintenance depends on the steels that make it up. A damask made of carbon steels remains susceptible to oxidation. Stainless steel generally offers better corrosion resistance but also needs to be cleaned and dried. Check the steel indicated on the piece's sheet.
How to maintain an artisanal Corsican knife?
Clean the blade after use, then dry it immediately with a soft cloth. Do not let the knife soak in water. Protect horn or wooden handles from prolonged moisture and direct heat. Keep your piece dry and follow the maintenance advice suitable for its materials on our maintenance page.
What is the price of an artisanal Corsican knife?
The price depends on the steel, handle materials, dimensions, assembly, and finishing work. At Couteaux Corses®, the displayed price corresponds to the piece actually offered for sale. Check its sheet for its price and characteristics; delivery fees are indicated separately before order confirmation.
What are the delivery times and costs?
The delivery methods, their costs, and the applicable times are indicated before the final validation of the order. Preparation for shipment occurs after effective payment validation. For questions concerning a destination or a particular order, contact our customer service. Actual times for France are 48 to 72 hours.
What payment methods do you offer?
Couteaux Corses® offers payment via a secure SumUp link sent by email, as well as payment through PayPal. Payment by credit card without a PayPal account is possible when this option is offered at the time of payment. Available methods are specified at the time of ordering.
Can I return a knife purchased online?
Yes. For a distance purchase, you generally have 14 calendar days from receipt to notify your withdrawal. The handcrafted or unique nature of the knife does not eliminate this right. An exception may apply to a piece made to your specifications or significantly personalized, notably by engraving. The direct return costs are your responsibility according to our T&Cs.
Do the knives come with a lifetime warranty?
Couteaux Corses® presents its handcrafted knives as lifetime guaranteed. The terms of the commercial warranty are those indicated for the item concerned; it is in addition to the legal guarantees. To request assistance, contact our customer service before sending anything to know the procedure suited to your knife.
What are the U PAISANU and U SIMPLICE models?
U PAISANU and U SIMPLICE are the first models designed and signed by Couteaux Corses®. They are currently announced as being in preparation. Each knife will remain a unique piece and will be presented individually when put on sale. Check the models page to follow their availability.
How to contact Couteaux Corses® before or after a purchase?
