Some thoughts on the Corsican knife

Corsica, a land of farming and pastoralism, and the knife, a faithful companion

Corsica is an ancient land, where man has always lived in the rhythm of nature. Since ancient times, agriculture and pastoralism have been at the heart of island life. The peasant, the shepherd, the winegrower... all left their mark on this proud territory and shaped by work.
In this harsh and peasant life, the knife was, and still remains, a faithful companion. It is not just a tool: it is above all a symbol of hard work and a must-have ally of snacks and meals. Every day, it is used to cut bread, cheese and meat. In the countryside or in the mountains, it helps peel, cut wood, prepare tools. Every Corsican man, from childhood to old age, had his knife (corse or not...), always passed from father to son.
This tradition is still alive today. The knife is not a fashion in Corsica, it is part of the identity of a man attached to his land and his values.
In Corsica, the earth feeds, the shepherd watches, and the knife accompanies every day of life.

A Curnichjolu? No wooden handle!

By definition, the Curnichjolu is a Corsican knife with a handle made of horn.
It is even the origin of its name: "curnichjolu" = small horn.

A knife with a wooden handle? It's not a Curnichjolu.
is a Cultellu or Cultella, a Corsican knife, yes, but not a Curnichjolu.

Remember:
Curnichjolu = horn
Wood = Cultellu

Let us respect the words.

Thought 1 – What if, quite simply, the Corsican knife …

Corsican knife question mark

What if, quite simply, the Corsican knife, to resist this foreign invasion that denatures it, starts by not spawning with these malotruses anymore?
Yes, you know, these knives in the window, exposed to the go-like-I-to-pousse on these stack-to-do stalls that we meet at every corner of the street, along our summer walks — and also winter, as well as to do.

And if, in order to remain what it is — or rather what it is said to want it to remain, what it claims loud and clear to anyone who wants to hear it — it refused to compromise itself by mixing with everything and anything?
To these things, yes, these soulless objects, produced in series, which are all that it is not.

And if he only interfered with those made from the same wood — or the same horn — as he did? Maybe then the look of the buyers would gain in clarity...

Oh, of course, that's a lot of it. Perhaps as many stands and stalls as mentioned above.
But tell me... I'm thinking: knives don't have legs, right?

So, who brings them to those exotic stalls? Maybe the very ones who are loudly offended to see them. Go and understand...

A word to the wise, as the elders used to say.
